About Me
Hello! I'm Andrew, WM4G, an Extra class amateur radio operator based on the West Coast of Florida near Tampa. I've been licensed since November 2024. I have been enjoying portable operations, learning at my local club K4EX, and getting more involved in the ham radio world. For now, this is a fairly basic page to share a bit about my ham radio activities and interests. I hope to expand it over time as I get more involved and learn new things in this great hobby!
Operating Interests
- POTA hunting — with occasional activations when I can get out to the parks
- HF digital modes (FT8 for now)
- Club activities like Field Day, Florida Parks on The Air, Winter Field Day, special event stations, and public service events
- VHF/UHF Local Nets
Looking forward to doing more park activations in the future. There's something special about operating portable in nature.
Portable Radio Setup
- Yaesu FT-891 transceiver
- LDG auto tuner
- POTA Explorer 20' carbon fiber mast
- FlatlandersMirrors 67ft 40m, 20m, 15m, 10m EFHW antenna
Used for portable activations and POTA hunting at my QTH.
Volunteer Examiner
I'm a VE with both ARRL and Laurel VEC as part of EPARS/K4EX VE Team.
If you're in the area and looking to test, reach out to the EPARS/K4EX VE Team or look for an upcoming session on our Hamstudy.org page.
Club Membership
Member of the East Pasco Amateur Radio Society (K4EX).
Currently, I am a member and occasional Net Control Operator (NCO) for club nets. I usually NCO once a month for the EPARS Digital Fusion net on our local 70cm repeaters and Wires-X "Florida WCF" room 81609. Always great to connect with hams locally and afar during our on-air activities.
